We’re Back!

I knocked off for 15 months because of the plague, but I guess a plague is just something we had to get used to.

The good news is that AMLO, the President of Mexico, claims that 80% of the people in the state of Chihuahua are vaccinated. Almost everyone I talk to in Juarez has been vaxed. All the waiters, and the bartenders, and the people tending the kiosks in the markets.

But Juarez is still enforcing COVID protocols, like temperature scans before you go into restaurants, and limited capacities.

And I am fully vaccinated (Moderna).

Of course, Juarez has changed. Nothing ever stays the same. El Recreo has closed. Don Antonio passed away in March, 2020. El Recreo opened in 1921, and it was probably my favorite bar on the planet, but there are a handful of bars on the planet that I haven’t been to. Yet.

But it’s still Juarez. And the history hasn’t changed, except as much as history changes.

And there are still cantinas and restaurants and mercados that I’d love to show you.

So drop me a line. Let’s do this.

  1. I cannot take the vax because of a medical condition. I am considering an overnight visit to Juarez. Do I need a negative test to walk back to the USA the next morning? If so, can it be done in El Paso the previous morning?

      1. With the new restrictions put in place in January 2022,is this still true? No testing, health screening, temperature checks at the border or anything like that?

        1. Right now there is no testing or proof of vaccination status required for American citizens.

  2. Aloha
we’re in El Paso for 3 months- Leaving January 20, 2021. We’re wanting to walk into Juarez for sightseeing, lunch, drinks, pharmacy, Kalua and Tequila purchase then getting back to El Paso. We don’t wear muzzles anywhere for anyone–is this an issue? Are the Mexicans requiring masks?

    1. Yes, every place in Juarez requires a face mask. You can walk down the street without one, but to go inside anywhere, you have to wear a mask.

  3. Can US visitors doing day trip to Juarez re-enter US without passport?
We’re planning to visit El Paso week of 3/20/22

    1. Yes. If you have a Driver’s License, or some form of i.d., they’ll let you back into the country. Especially if you’re obviously an American. They might scold you a little bit, but I’ve been scolded before.

      1. I came here for this exact question. I don’t mind being scolded. Just don’t wanna get stuck lol.

We are heading out Easter weekend! Looking forward to calling!
